About Today’s Wordle

Wordle #1961 (published November 1, 2026) gives you six guesses to find a five-letter word. Green = correct letter in the right spot, yellow = in the word but wrong spot, gray = not in the word. Today’s puzzle doesn’t lean on any repeated letters, so once you’ve got the right five in hand, the real challenge is nailing down their exact order.

Non-Spoiler Overview

If today’s word feels like it belongs more in a nature documentary than a crossword, that’s not a coincidence. There’s a cold-blooded, slightly dangerous flavor to this one, and English has also borrowed it as a sharp way to describe an untrustworthy person.

Difficulty-wise, this sits in solid middle territory. Nothing repeats, which keeps the logic clean once you start narrowing things down, but a couple of the consonants involved don’t come up as often as the usual Wordle favorites, so don’t expect your first guess to do all the heavy lifting.

The most common slip here is assuming a double letter where there isn’t one, or burning guesses on overly common five-letter patterns that don’t actually share much with today’s word. Trust the colors over your gut once you’ve got real feedback on the board.

Hints

Theme / Domain

[CLICK TO REVEAL]

Reserved for the natural world — specifically something you’d want to watch out for on a hike or in tall grass. English also borrows it as a sharp insult for a cunning, dangerous person.

Meaning Nudge

[CLICK TO REVEAL]

At its core, it names a venomous snake — a biter whose reputation precedes it. Figuratively, it’s also used for someone treacherous or quick to turn on you.

Part of Speech

[CLICK TO REVEAL]

A noun, describing either a creature or, figuratively, a type of person.

Tone / Register

[CLICK TO REVEAL]

Neutral in a nature-writing context, but noticeably sharper and more negative when used to describe a person’s character.

Usage Clue

[CLICK TO REVEAL]

You might read something like: “The hikers gave the tall grass a wide berth after the ranger’s warning.”

Letter Pattern Help

Starting Letter

[CLICK TO REVEAL]

Starts with: V.

[CLICK TO REVEAL]

Ends with: R.

Two vowels, I and E, each appearing once.

Repeated Letters

[CLICK TO REVEAL]

None — all five letters are different.

Pattern Shape

[CLICK TO REVEAL]

Final pattern: V I P E R.

Rare/Tricky Letters

[CLICK TO REVEAL]

V and P don’t show up as often as the usual Wordle workhorses, so this one can take an extra guess if you’re leaning only on common letters.

Rhyme or Analogy

[CLICK TO REVEAL]

Rhymes loosely with “sniper” and “hyper”; in meaning, it keeps company with words like “cobra” and “adder.”

Today’s Answer

Wordle #1961 Answer: VIPER

Definition & Example

VIPER — a venomous snake with hinged, retractable fangs; also used figuratively for a treacherous, deceitful, or dangerous person.

Example Usage

[CLICK TO REVEAL]

Example: “The campers steered well clear of the rocky ledge after the ranger warned that a VIPER had been spotted sunning itself nearby.”

Quick Strategy Tips

Open with a guess that spreads out your vowels and a handful of frequent consonants — something like AUDIO, SLATE, or CRANE — so you know early which vowel you’re actually working with.

Once you’ve confirmed a vowel, shift your second guess toward consonant-heavy words that test letters you haven’t tried yet, rather than repeating ones you’ve already confirmed. That’s the fastest way to pin down position once you know the letters.

How I Solved Today’s Wordle

I started with AUDIO to map vowels. That lit up one vowel in yellow — present, but in the wrong spot — while the rest of the letters grayed out, which told me the word leaned consonant-heavy outside that single vowel hit.

My second guess leaned hard into consonants that hadn’t shown up yet, and it came back with almost everything confirmed as present but out of place — a strong signal I had the right letters and just needed to rearrange them.

From there it was a matter of testing letter order rather than hunting for new letters. One more close guess pinned down every position but the very first letter, and the final swap clicked the whole thing into place with a guess to spare.

[CLICK TO REVEAL: Full Walkthrough]

I started with AUDIO to map vowels. That surfaced the I in yellow — present, but in the wrong spot — while A, U, D, and O all grayed out, telling me the word had just one vowel doing the work alongside four consonants. Next I played PRIZE to test a cluster of common consonants: P, R, I, and E all came back yellow, confirming four of the five letters but none in their final position, while Z grayed out. That left me rearranging four known letters with one slot still open. I tried WIPER, which locked P, I, E, and R into their correct spots — but the W grayed out, telling me the opening letter was wrong. Swapping that W for V gave me VIPER: a tidy fit once I had the shape nailed down, and the venomous-snake meaning clicked the moment I saw it spelled out.

FAQ: Common Sticking Points

How many vowels are in today’s Wordle?

Two.

Is there a double letter?

No.

Any tricky letters?

A couple of less-common consonants show up, so lean on process of elimination rather than only common letter guesses.
