Lebanese Simple Syrup (Ater)

Simple syrup is a syrup used in most middle eastern desserts. Today I will show you how to make it quickly and easily at home.

Ingredients

You will be needing the following ingredients:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • A splash of Orange flower water

Tools

  • A small pot
  • A whisk

Notes

You can add a splash of rose water. Or replace Orange flower water with rose water.

Instructions

1- Put the sugar and water in the pot over high heat and bring them to a boil while mixing them constantly.

2- When the sugar completely dissolves, let the syrup boil for a couple of minutes before adding the lemon juice and then boil for a couple more minutes.

3- Add your orange flower water/rose water and boil for a couple of minutes before removing it from heat.

Serving Suggestions

Let the syrup cool down before serving. Best served over any Lebanese/Middle Eastern sweet.
