Brioche Façon Pain Perdu

Brioche façon pain perdu, or French-Toast style sticky buns is a popular dessert in France made from leftover bread or brioche (sticky bun) in this case.

It is a very easy and quick recipe that you can always make whenever you’re craving something sweet.

Difficulty: Easy

Cooking Time: <30 mns

Ingredients

You will be needing the following ingredients:

  • Brioche (Sticky bun), sliced into thick slices
  • Eggs
  • Milk
  • Sugar
  • Vanilla
  • Butter (you can also use oil but butter is better)

Some optional ingredients:

  • Caramel
  • Maple Syrup
  • Red Fruits
  • Ice cream
  • Whipped cream

Tools

  • Frypan
  • Bowl
  • Whisk or fork

Notes

You can also cook your brioche perdue in the oven by slightly buttering your oven plate.

Instructions

1- In a bowl, combine 1 egg, 1/2 cup of milk, a tablespoon of sugar, and a teaspoon of powdered vanilla, then whisk well.

This batter quantity is good for around 3 thick slices of brioche.

2- Soak the brioche in the milk and eggs mixture.

For me, I only let them soak 5-10 seconds on each side so that the brioche absorbs the mixture without getting too soggy, but you can soak them more. It all depends on personal preference.

3- Heat up your frypan and add the butter to it. When the butter is melted, fry the soaked brioche for a couple of minutes on each side, until it’s golden brown.

Make sure not to burn the butter, and avoid very high heat.

Serving Suggestions

When it comes to serving your brioche perdue, there are several options:

  • Add some fresh fruits to your plate (or some jam/fruit syrup)
  • Add some whipped cream
  • Add a scoop of ice cream
  • Drizzle some caramel sauce or maple syrup
  • Sprinkle some sugar on top
  • Add some chocolate syrup.

You can be creative with how you like your plate, based on preference or whatever you have around the house.

But since I live in Brittany, it’s only natural that I added some salted-butter caramel and a scoop of ice-cream to my plate!
